The University of Michigan joined a parade of state schools Thursday in raising tuition by more than 6 percent for undergraduates this fall. 
Responding to a 15 percent cut in state aid, U-M regents passed a $1.59 billion budget for fiscal 2012 that hikes in-state undergraduate tuition 6.7 percent. Tuition for graduate and nonresident students was raised 4.9 percent.
