    Work at beautiful Red Butte Garden and enjoy making a positive impact on the lives of K-12 students and campers. Educators at Red Butte Garden share their passion for plants, the outdoors, and the environment to K-12 students during field trips, visits to classrooms, summer camps, and more. Educators are responsible for teaching lessons and guiding students through investigations to engage them with the science of plants and the environment.

    During the school year, this position will primarily work with schools. During the summer, this position will primarily work with summer camps. Educators will acquire and strengthen skills in communication, teaching, curriculum development, classroom management, and more.

    Red Butte Garden is accessible via several bus routes that stop in Research Park and at the University Medical Center, as well as the Trax Red line, followed by a short walk or on-demand university campus shuttle.     Responsibilities
    Teaching in-Garden and off-site school programs to elementary school students. Effectively implement 3-dimensional, phenomena based science teaching.
    Collect, assemble, and maintain teaching materials. Assist in maintaining facilities and equipment.
    Collaborate with program coordinators to develop curriculum and lesson plans
    Lead, teach, and supervise summer camp students, including: following safety guidelines, supporting youth development, and monitoring medical needs.
    Develop, prepare, and teach activities, experiments, crafts, and games for summer camp students. Review and provide feedback on camp curriculum.
    Represent Red Butte Garden when interacting with parents, caregivers, or community partners by providing extraordinary service to all campers, parents, caregivers, and Garden colleagues.
    Assist the Programs department with other activities, programs, and seasonal events as needed by performing other relevant duties as assigned.
    Must complete Youth Protection Training.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor’s degree in a related area (such as education, horticulture, botany, environmental studies, or another related field) or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and two years of related experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

    Preferences
    Experience with the Next Generation Science Standards, Utah’s SEEd standards, and/or 3-dimensional, phenomena driven science teaching
    An interest in plants, botany, and/or horticulture demonstrated either by education or previous employment
    Experience working or teaching in an outdoor setting
    Proven written and verbal communication skills
    Previous experience working with children
    Understanding of various teaching methods and the ability to adjust activities to include the interests and abilities of various ages and groups of campers
    Excellent classroom management skills
    Ability to think creatively and respond calmly and quickly in stressful situations
    Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience
    Dependable and punctual
    Able to work both independently and as part of a team
