  • Sex education is important. Many schools or rather most schools have taken up this initiative of conducting sex education classes for kids who fall have achieved puberty or fall in the category of adolescents or young adults.

Sex education does more than just teach about the human reproductive system in both male and females. It makes us aware of the various sexually transmitted diseases can occur amongst youngsters who do not believe in practicing safe sex. We know for a fact that if two youngsters agree to indulge in intercourse, we might not be able to stop them. In fact if there is restriction, they will find ways and means which might not be safe or legal.

The legal authorities have charted out various policies regarding this, but they are rarely followed. We still hear of teenage pregnancies and more. However, a recent policy announced in a school in Boston, has shocked all. The policy says that condoms can be given out to 3rd graders in school.

This news has put everyone in a dilemma. Parents are shocked and the teaching staff is of course confused of what should be done. It seems that the schools who have accepted this policy will not deny a ‘sexually active student’ a condom. But do third graders indulge in sex? Or do they know what is it all about in the first place?

Parents have not only expressed shocked but are also contemplating getting their kids out of the school. They would not prefer their children being handed over condoms even if they ask for it.

The authorities however, are dealing with the situation quite well. They want the policy to be corrected so that it reads correctly and there would be no misconception regarding the distribution of condoms. The school agrees that they want their students who are sexually active to practice safe sex. On one hand these students might want to be discreet and hence do not go out to buy condoms as they are worried of being caught or are just shy. If condoms are made available to them in school, just like first aid, at least they can make use of it.

However, parents of teenagers do not appreciate this initiative. They would like to believe their kids are still kids and should refrain from sex. But in the broader sense of the word, even the parents do not know, their kids do indulge in it some or the other time. Laws have come and gone, but what is going to happen, it will happen. Plus no one can keep a 24/7 watch on the kids. They too have a right to privacy.

Kids however, might like this policy. Not the 3rd graders of course. Education regarding sex or intercourse or the reproductive system in the humans, has definitely taken a different turn. It is best that we wait and watch what the policy will be like after it is revised. Itt will of course be in the favour of safe sex.
